Parties sometimes ask not to cancel a file and go on stand-by for an indeterminable about of time. The file's checklist could be frozen and the file would stay on the whiteboard in order for it to be followed up on. Maybe the line could turn an unusual color the same way a line turns red when the file has outstanding items.

Once it is added, it will show in the Quick Filters drop down, so you can see any files with that status.
